Spiral Wound Gaskets comprise a mix of metallic and filler material. Generally, the gasket has a metal (normally carbon rich or stainless steel) wound outwards in a circular spiral (other shapes are possible) with the filler material (generally a flexible graphite) wound in the same manner but starting from the opposing side. This results in alternating layers of filler and metal. The filler material in these gaskets acts as the sealing element, with the metal providing structural support.
These gaskets have proven to be reliable in most applications, and allow lower clamping forces than solid gaskets, albeit with a higher cost.

Spiral Wound Gaskets have proven to be the most reliable sealing element for use in difficult, critical and arduous duties. Spiral wound gaskets are used in Refinery, Petrochemical, Chemical, Steam lines and Process Industries, where they have many advantages over older types of gaskets.

These gaskets are manufactured to International specifications such as BS, API, ASME, DIN.

Compressed fibre jointing is a consistently uniform pliable and resilient product. A price worthy quality of dependable performance, plus adaptability to many sealing requirements makes this ''STEAM JOINTING'' the most popular choice sheet packing of plant engineers and maintenance men.

Available in all types of standard and non standard sizes.

A gasket material is comprised of asbestos fibers encapsulated within a rubber binder. CAF Gaskets are tough, durable and dimensionally stable, relatively incompressible and exhibits low creep characteristics. It also has the ability to effectively form a seal over a wide range of service conditions which has given it a good reputation. Compressed asbestos fiber (CAF) gaskets have good chemical resistance capabilities and a good working temperature range of cryogenic to 1,100F. It is less suitable for low bolt loads such as use with non-metallic flanges and low grade bolts, and is not suitable for use in stainless steel flanges due to its chlorine content which will damage the flanges. However, CAF Gaskets can be installed relatively easily due to their ability to handle mechanical abuse, incorrect fitting and bolt-load retorquing.

Natural Rubber Gaskets (Gum Rubber Gaskets) Polyisoprene (NR):

Natural rubber, also referred to as “gum rubber”, has many positive characteristics. It has superior resilience, high resistance to tear and abrasion, tensile strength, good compression set, and molding properties. Natural rubber is soft and displays good flexing qualities at low temperatures. It also has the ability to bond well to other materials such as metal. Natural rubber is non-toxic, non-marking, and resistant to water, acids, alcohol, organic salts, and alkalis. Natural rubber should not be used in applications that involve petroleum derivatives or exposure to chemicals. Natural rubber functions well in temperatures ranging from -60°F to +175°F.

PTFE is principally used as a gasket material because of it's capability to remain unaffected by the majority of chemicals used in industry. It is also classified, in most cases, as a food grade material, making it acceptable to both medical and food production industries. There are three basic types of PTFE gasket materials-Virgin PTFE, Filled PTFE and expanded PTFE.

Virgin PTFE is by far the least expensive of the three varieties, and is used in most general applications. Filled PTFE is a gasket material with a virgin PTFE base to which a substance is added during manufacture to improve the sealing characteristics of PTFE. This "filler" usually is glass or graphite particles although ceramics has sometimes been used. The resulting gasket material is strong, yet highly compressible with very good, though not universal, chemical resistance.

Expanded PTFE is virgin PTFE to which a stress resistance has been added by means of molecular rearrangement during manufacture. This process ensures that the molecular chains from which the PTFE is constructed, do not arrange themselves into set patterns. This means that expanded PTFE possesses no structural weakness (grain) and expands and contracts equally in all directions. Because no additives are required, expanded PTFE also possesses the unique chemical resistance of virgin PTFE.
